# SFXMint — Free CC0 Sound Effects for Apps and Games > Free sound effects for the apps and games you build: a library of 6,700+ > AI-generated and procedurally-synthesized sounds at https://sfxmint.com, with a > no-key API and MCP server for coding assistants. > AI Studio makes the sounds the library is missing: one at a time, or a whole app's list. Every file is > CC0 1.0 Universal (public domain) — free for any use, commercial or personal, > no attribution or signup required. Audio URLs are permanent, immutable, and > CORS-enabled for direct hotlinking. ## Site - [Browse sounds by category](https://sfxmint.com/#categories): 23 categories (ui, retro-game, transition, impact, ambience, water, fire-electric, footsteps, door, mechanical, paper-fabric, glass, animal, crowd, cartoon, magic-scifi, horror, feedback, instrument, office, human, vehicle, household), 6,700+ sounds total. - [Sound roles](https://sfxmint.com/roles): look a sound up by what it is for (button-click, purchase-success, dialogue-blip, notification) — one file-eligible default per role when the ready search gate is enabled, plus aliases and the family it comes from. - [Sound sets](https://sfxmint.com/sets): per-role kits with separate file and listening evidence: 18 sets (ui-crisp, ui-soft, ui-spacious, retro-game, chat-app, saas-app, checkout, learning, puzzle-game, platformer, horror-game, video-editing, smart-device, wellness, ai-coding-tool, acoustic-drum-kit, animal-calls, dungeon-traps). Each page has a role → hotlink URL map. - [Guide: add sound effects to a React app](https://sfxmint.com/guides/react-app-sounds): fetch a set, 15-line play() module, use-sound / Howler, autoplay and mute rules. - [Guide: add sound effects to a Phaser web game](https://sfxmint.com/guides/phaser-web-game-sounds): preload with this.load.audio, play, loop ambience, audio unlock, why hotlinking works. - [AI Studio](https://sfxmint.com/studio): the sounds the library lacks — describe one sound and get 4 takes in seconds, or paste the sounds your app or game needs: free library sounds are used first and only the gaps are made; each sound made is one of the account's 3 free tries (the first needs no account), or comes from a 24-hour pass ($3.90, 50 sounds) or a plan (from $9.90 for 30 days, 50 to 200 a day) on the account; generating: one generation without an account, then 3 free tries with a free account, on the website (once per browser and network, none with a temporary email address); after them, 3 a day can still be made and heard there, and a pass or plan downloads them; for more, and for the API and MCP, a 24-hour pass ($3.90, 50 sounds in 24 hours) or a plan for 30 days (30-day plan $9.90, 50 a day; Pro $39.90, 200 a day), for the whole account, bought at /pricing. No credits, no subscription: one payment, nothing renews ([pricing](https://sfxmint.com/pricing)). - [8-bit / retro synth tools](https://sfxmint.com/synth/8-bit): in-browser sfxr-style chiptune generator for coins, jumps, lasers and power-ups. - [License](https://sfxmint.com/license): full CC0 1.0 terms — yes, commercial use is allowed, no attribution required. - [About](https://sfxmint.com/about): provenance (AI generation + procedural synthesis), objective file-QC status and contact. - [Full page index](https://sfxmint.com/llms-full.txt): all core pages as one plain-text document. ## API & MCP (for agents) - [API docs](https://sfxmint.com/api/docs): full reference, no API key required. - Roles (sound by purpose): `GET https://sfxmint.com/api/v1/roles` (list) and `GET https://sfxmint.com/api/v1/roles/{role}?style=balanced|crisp|soft|spacious` — role id or alias, one file-checked candidate + alternates, `loopable` flag; unknown role → 404 with `roles_url` - Search (keyword + semantic, natural language OK): `GET https://sfxmint.com/api/v1/search?q={query}&category=&limit=20&max_duration_ms=&loop=&format=wav|mp3` — constraints are applied before `limit`; `response=structured` returns a fresh request id, parsed constraints, checks, near matches and diagnostics. Legacy `match` is role | exact | partial | semantic and `score` is ranking only, not confidence. - File status: `recommendation_status` is eligible | unverified | excluded. Format metadata records measured duration, bytes, codec, hash and decode evidence; descriptions and tags are retrieval metadata, not listening proof. `loop_status=prepared` marks prepared loop metadata; seam listening evidence and MP3 padding remain separate and may be unknown. - Sound sets: `GET https://sfxmint.com/api/v1/sets` and `GET https://sfxmint.com/api/v1/sets/{id}` — one sound per role + role → URL map - Sound metadata: `GET https://sfxmint.com/api/v1/sounds/{slug}` - Retired generation endpoint: `POST https://sfxmint.com/api/v1/generate` returns HTTP 410 `generation_retired`; no new job is created (generate with `POST /api/v1/orders` below). - Generate a sound the library lacks (API key; a pass or plan on the account — a 24-hour pass ($3.90, 50 sounds) or a plan (from $9.90 for 30 days, 50 to 200 a day); the 3 free tries are on the website only — each up to 4 CC0 WAV takes of up to 10 s; one that makes no take does not count): `POST https://sfxmint.com/api/v1/orders` with `{"prompt": "…", "variations": 4}` (optional `duration_s`, `enhance`) and `Authorization: Bearer sfx_live_…`, then `GET https://sfxmint.com/api/v1/orders/{id}`. Create keys at https://sfxmint.com/dashboard/keys; searching and downloading never need one. - Historical job status: `GET https://sfxmint.com/api/v1/jobs/{job_id}` - Direct audio (hotlink-friendly): `https://sfxmint.com/dl/{slug}.mp3` / `.wav` — CORS: *, Cache-Control: immutable; never append query parameters - Changelog (removed fields and changed behavior, by date): https://sfxmint.com/api/docs#changelog - MCP server (Streamable HTTP): `https://sfxmint.com/mcp` — tools: `search_sounds`, `get_role_sound`, `get_sound`, `get_sound_set`, and `generate_sound` with `get_generation` (an API key in the `Authorization` header, for generation only); with the same key, `start_game_kit`, `get_game_kit`, `list_kit_sounds`, `make_kit_sounds`, `pick_kit_take`, `change_kit_take` and `export_game_kit` make a whole game's sounds as a Game kit the user can also open on the website. `get_job` is retired; legacy calls return `tool_retired` with `isError=true`. Registered in the official MCP registry as `com.sfxmint/sounds`. - Skill for coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor): `npx skills add flreey/sfxmint-mcp -y` - Five core platformer events (jump, land, coin, hit, win / level-up) expose `content_check`: verified, unverified or rejected, scoped to scene, role, format and exact file SHA256. Unknown previews are not accepted content. The platformer set is reviewed only when all five pass. Prefer downloading WAV files locally and retaining metadata and checksums; MP3 needs its own review. Task-permitted processing is allowed: retain originals, source and license, recipe and new hashes; re-check the processed result. Changed bytes or a different scene do not inherit acceptance. ## License All audio is CC0 1.0 Universal (public domain): free for commercial and personal use, no attribution, no signup, no fees. Full terms: https://sfxmint.com/license ## Optional - [Privacy](https://sfxmint.com/privacy) - [Contact](https://sfxmint.com/contact) - [Sitemap](https://sfxmint.com/sitemap.xml): full list of canonical page URLs ## Direct project integration - [For AI assistants](https://sfxmint.com/for-ai): copy a task; no MCP installation required. - [CLI](https://www.npmjs.com/package/sfxmint): `npx sfxmint add coin jump` downloads verified files into the project and writes a manifest with sources, checksums and license. `--set ` takes a whole kit; an incomplete set reports the missing roles rather than failing. Node 20+, no dependencies, no key. - [Download example](https://sfxmint.com/examples/download-sounds.mjs): Node 20+, no dependencies, local files with SHA256 verification and provenance. - Sets support format=wav|mp3|ogg; download_urls follows format, legacy urls stays MP3, missing_roles identifies partial sets. Choose a role for one event, a set for several events, or structured search for a description or gap. These are task branches, not a fixed sequence. Library files, other permitted sources and local synthesis may be mixed according to the task. Ranking scores and match types do not certify suitability. When no sound has every word of a search, closest lists the nearest sounds that still meet every hard condition, with missing_terms: judge them and let the user listen. near_matches fail a condition; do not substitute them for compliant results.
