SFXMint

Add sound effects with Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Free, CC0, no API key. Your coding assistant can search 6,700+ sound effects for apps and games, download the WAV or MP3 files into your project and connect them to its events. Connect the MCP server once, then give it the task.

1. Connect the MCP server

The server is remote (Streamable HTTP) at https://sfxmint.com/mcp. Searching, sets and downloads need no key or account.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http sfxmint https://sfxmint.com/mcp

Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json in the project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json)

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "sfxmint": { "url": "https://sfxmint.com/mcp" }
  }
}

Codex CLI

codex mcp add sfxmint --url https://sfxmint.com/mcp

2. Give it the task

Paste this into the assistant, or say the same in your own words:

Add sound effects to this project with SFXMint (MCP server "sfxmint").
Find the events in the code that need a sound (button taps, success, errors, notifications).
Take free CC0 sounds from the library: get_sound_set for several events, get_role_sound for one, search_sounds for anything else.
Download the files into the project (for example public/sounds) and play each on its event after the first user input, with a mute toggle.
Keep each file's license, source URL and SHA-256 in a manifest, and tell me which files to listen to.

The tools return permanent, CORS-enabled file URLs with their measured length, format and SHA-256, so the assistant can download the exact files and record where they came from. Listen to the result in the app: names and measurements do not prove a sound fits your event.

3. Or without MCP: one command

Any assistant that can run a terminal command can use the npm package. It downloads checked files and a manifest (source URL, SHA-256, license) into the project:

npx sfxmint add --set saas-app
npx sfxmint add coin jump hit

There are 18 sets, one sound per event: browse the sound packs. Plain HTTP works too: API docs.

4. When the library has nothing that fits

With an API key the MCP tool generate_sound makes new CC0 sounds from a description (a pass or plan on the account — a 24-hour pass ($3.90, 50 sounds) or a plan (from $9.90 for 30 days, 50 to 200 a day); the 3 free tries are on the website only — each up to 4 CC0 WAV takes of up to 10 s; one that makes no take does not count). Add the key as a header when you connect, for example --header "Authorization: Bearer $SFXMINT_API_KEY" for Claude Code.
